you have my love

let me say, you have my heart,
always and forever more.
my life is incomplete without you,
you are my love.
now, you'll have to excuse me if i knock you down.

yeah, i still love you.
i still want to be with you.
but essential it is,
for me to hurt you,
to make you cry.

one more time,
only one,
i watch the tears stream down your face.
and now you know,
you have my love.

I'm sure this would be a fun one to psychoanalyze, but I doubt the analysis could be even close to accurate if it delved into any specificity. I wrote this for my English teacher during my sophomore year. It was my first serious attempt at poetry. I remember a guy in my English class (with whom I had a very cold relationship) read it; and it really pissed me off. It was (and is) deeply personal, and not at all something I wanted someone I didn't like to read. The same guy was also the primary inspiration for i am a poem I would write some time after this one.
